YaSkinsWaterproof Everest Base Camp Trek

Veterans Network will proudly be supporting YaSkinsWaterproof as they embark on an eighteen-day expedition to Everest Base Camp on the 10th of October 2018.

The expedition team consists of:

Richie Kingston – Ex Royal Signals

Chris Kelly – Ex Royal Signals

Gemma Moran – Chris’ Partner

Chris Kelly (Left) and Richie Kingston (Right)

The trek will be done over fourteen actual days taking travelling out of the equation and will be a test of physical and mental strength but will be an amazing experience for all concerned. The trek will begin in Lukla, Nepal on the 12th of October and the team aim to reach base camp on the 20th of October. It is then an about turn and back the way they came before a much-needed rest day in Kathmandu before the flight back to the UK.

The trek is being completed to raise funds for the Talking 2 Minds charity. The Charity was founded by Rob Paxman (Ex 22 SAS) and supports people suffering from PTSD and other stress-related illnesses.

So why a PTSD charity? – Well as most people from the forces community will have been affected by PTSD either directly or through comrades/friends, it seemed to make sense to support a charity that helps those who suffer. Both Chris and Rich have lost friends to PTSD in the past and very recently lost a former colleague who had been suffering. The YaSkinsWaterproof team believe that although PTSD is now out in the public domain and getting more recognition than before, more still needs to be done. Too many are still suffering in silence and we are sure this is a sentiment shared by everyone.

The team have been working closely with Veterans Network to promote the trek and gain as much support as possible for a very worthwhile charity.

The team have set a modest £2000 target but hope to greatly exceed that through both private supporters of the trek and corporate sponsorship from their employers. All money raised is going to the charity as they have privately funded the expedition. All donations can be made through the YaSkinsWaterproof page on Virgin Money Giving.

Veterans Network will be keeping up to date with the Exped throughout the training and preparation phase all the way to the arrival at Base Camp.

Please feel free to add YaSkinsWaterproof on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter, that way you can be kept up to date with the expedition and also what else Rich and Chris have going on as they try to build the group and promote the great outdoors.
